WWFB Week 2 Report

Sharks 19 AT Sluggers 8 (Run Rule 2nd)

In week 1 when the Sharks and Sluggers matched up it was a tight game, this was a little different. The Sharks opened up the game with a 15 run 1st inning and were on cruise control after that. Matt Boles went a perfect 8-8 with 3 HR's leading the way as the Sharks smashed the Sluggers. Boles' MVP caliber performance was overshadowed however by his ridiculous 360 spin swing that saw him wind up on his back after one pitch. Jonathan Shelton and Carey Loggins hit well but neither could find a rhythm on the mound.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: M.Boles (8-8) 3 HR's 8 RBI's

Sluggers 12 AT Sharks 23 (Run Rule 2nd)

If you like home runs then this was the game for you. The two teams combined for an unreal 18 homers in just 2 innings of play. Phillip Bullock caught fire smashing 2 homers, Shelton also put on a strong showing at the plate with 3 homers and going into the bottom of the 2nd he had actually led the Sluggers to a 12-3 lead but after that it was all Sharks with the Super Star trio of M.Gibson (4 HR's), Boles (4 HR's), and Zente (2 HR's) combining for 10 homers and 20 runs to win the game in another run rule.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: M.Boles (8-9) 4 HR's 10 RBI's

Classics 14 AT Raiders 10

The Classics came into the week 0-2 and starving for a victory, and after some roster shuffling that's just what they got. Christian Martin had his break out game of 2013 slugging 4 homers and pitching well enough on the mound to lead his team to its first W of the year. Scotty Venable had a strong showing for the losing Raiders racking up 3 homers of his own.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: C.Martin (5-7) 4 HR's 10 RBI's

Raiders 11 AT Classics 1 (Run Rule 2nd)

Maybe the Classics were too busy enjoying their first victory but regardless the reason they failed to show up for the 2nd game. Matt Haas made a couple of big time plays in the field (and 3 homers at the plate), while Adam...did not (still a good guy though). Dylan Gibson managed to pitch a 5 hit 1 run game in a year that so far has been dominated by offense putting him in the forefront of CY Young talks.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: D.Gibson 2 IP 1 RA 3 K's

MVP WATCH
1. Matt Boles (23-27) .852, 9 HR's, 21 RBI's - The week he had moves Boles to the top of the list as he leads the league in batting average, 2nd in homers and RBI's all while playing for the undefeated Sharks.
2. Luke Zente (22-30) .733, 8 HR's, 18 RBI's - So far you could give the MVP to any Shark and no one could argue it. Luke is the catalyst of the juggernaut Sharks offense and already boasts multiple walk off homers on the year.
3. Michael Gibson (19-29) .655, 10 HR's, 21 RBI's - While the average is slumping a bit by his standards anytime you're leading the league in homers and play on the 1st place team you're going to be in MVP talks.
4. Matt Haas (18-26) .692, 9 HR's, 22 RBI's - Haas is one of the most feared hitters to go up against in water wiffle ball and the scary part is he has the potential to be even better than he's shown.
5. Christian Martin (12-17) .706, 5 HR's, 13 RBI's - After a quiet 1st week, Christian showed why he's considered to be among the game's stars. He put his team on his back to capture their first victory of the season. He's going to have to play more games like that if he wants to move the Classics up the standings and himself up the MVP ballot.

CY YOUNG WATCH
1. Michael Gibson (2-0) 11.40 ERA, 16K's - Yet to lose and leading the league in K's puts you at the top of the CY Young list
2. Dylan Gibson (2-2) 8.33 ERA, 10 K's - The only pitcher remaining in single digits for his ERA
3. Christian Martin (1-2) 14.57 ERA, 12 K's - Showed some flashes of his former CY Young type stuff

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR WATCH
1. Luke Zente (22-30) .733, 8 HR's, 18 RBI's - This award may already be wrapped up

COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR
1. Adam Dickinson (9-17) .522, 1 HR, 7 RBI - Rocky 2nd week but still playing great for a guy coming off a major elbow injury.

GOLD GLOVE WATCH PITCHER
1. Dylan Gibson - Same thing as last week no one has really made any big time plays on the mound yet

GOLD GLOVE WATCH FIELDERS
1. Matt Haas - Haas is a given he could drop every fly ball the rest of the year and still probably make this list, 10 times out of 10 if you hit the ball anywhere near Haas it's an out.
2. Matt Boles - Another smooth outfielder and the only other fielder in the league who can really give Haas a run for his money.
3. No Idea - This 3rd spot is wide open, Carey botched a play in the field this week, Tray botched a couple last week, Scotty hasn't shown the range, and Luke dropped one in week 1 so this third spot is wide open.

SILVER SLUGGERS WATCH
1. Matt Boles (23-27) .852, 9 HR's, 21 RBI's
2. Michael Gibson (19-29) .655, 10 HR's, 21 RBI's
3. Luke Zente (22-30) .733, 8 HR's, 18 RBI's

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER WATCH
1. Adam Dickinson (9-17) .522, 1 HR, 7 RBI
