WWFB Week 1 Report

Raiders 13 AT Classics 2

Rematch of the 2012 World Series Championship series and kick off of the 2013 WWFB season resulted in the Raiders getting some revenge for last year. Matt Haas' hitting and Dylan Gibson's pitching led the way for the Raiders while Classics' ace Christian Martin struggled to find his groove on the mound and Will Essick looked lost at the plate. You have to think a lot of this was rust for the Classics and they'll round back to form as the season progresses.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: D.Gibson (6-7) 1 HR 5 RBI's, 2 IP 2 RA 2 K's

Sluggers 7 AT Sharks 8

The Sharks dream team made their debut against a very solid Sluggers team and won in a dog fight. M.Gibson's opening day pitching combined with his, Zente, and Boles' hitting was enough to pull out the victory with a walk off homer by Luke despite solid performances by Adam Dickinson and Carey Loggins both going 3-4. Once Taylor Ray heats up this Sharks team is going to be downright scary.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: M.Gibson (3-4) 2 HR's 3 RBI's, 3 IP 7 RA 4 K's

Classics 4 AT Sluggers 8

With the Classics still struggling to wake up Shelton took full advantage holding them to 4 runs and winning in pretty easy fashion. Adam Dickinson continued his early season tear going a perfect 4-4. While the Classics went another direction on the mound with Essick who was actually able to rack up 4 K's but it wasn't enough to keep the Sluggers from producing enough runs to walk away with a W in this one.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: A.Dickinson (4-4) 2 RBI's

Sharks 12 AT Raiders 11

If you like the long ball this was the game for you as the two teams combined for 13 homers (7 for Sharks). Although it was mostly an offensive game the critical moment came on a big time strike out when M.Gibson struck out M.Haas on a 3-2 count to end the game. Luke Zente and Scotty Venable were huge in this game each hitting 3 homers.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: L.Zente (5-7) 3 HR's 5 RBI's

GOLD GLOVE WATCH PITCHER
1. Dylan Gibson - no pitchers really made any big time defensive plays but Dylan was back at it with his behind the back throws so for now he's being placed here but this is wide open.

GOLD GLOVE WATCH FIELDERS
1. Matt Haas - Without a doubt Haas played flawlessly in the field and made big time plays it's gonna take a lot to knock him off his perch as the top Gold Glove candidates.
2. Will Essick - Bobbled some plays but made a sick highlight reel catch that has him in the conversation for one of the three Gold Gloves early this season.
3. Carey Loggins - Didn't make any jaw dropping plays in the field but played well and didn't make any errors.

SILVER SLUGGERS WATCH
1. Luke Zente (9-12) .750, 5 HR's, 8 RBI's
