Sharks 29 AT Raiders 7
This game was just ridiculous with the Sharks dominating in convincing fashion leading pitcher D.Gibson of the Raiders to say "I promise I'm not pitching this bad, they're just that good." Luke Zente had a game for the record books going 10-11 with 7 homeruns while his teammates chipped in with 9 homers of their own (Boles 5, M.Gibson 4). The only bright spot for the Raiders was D.Gibson going 7-7 but his performance wasn't enough to bring his team within 3 touch downs of the Sharks.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Luke Zente (10-11) 7 HR's, 14 RBI's
Raiders 8 AT Classics 9
Through 1.2 innings this game seemed like a pitcher's duel as Christian Martin no hit the Raiders in the first inning and Dylan Gibson had gotten two outs while holding the Classics scoreless. That's when things changed with the Classics busting out 5 runs in a 2 out rally to take the lead. The Raiders battled back posting 4 runs in the 2nd but that total was matched by the Classics in the bottom half of the inning giving them a 9-4 lead heading into the top of the 3rd, while the Raiders put up a fight they couldn't muster enough run support to keep the game going losing 9-8.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Christian Martin (3-4) 1 HR, 4 RBI's...3 IP, 8 RA, 6 K's
Sharks 17 AT Classics 16
The Sharks looked like they were about to breeze through another game when they jumped out to a 17-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd led by Michael Gibson who hit a homerun in his first four at bats, but that's when things changed. The Sharks had an opportunity to get out of the game on a run rule up 17-7 with 2 outs but a pop fly was dropped by Luke Zente and then later another error was made as Boles mishandled a routine throw to 2nd allowing the Classics to come back into this game closing the gap to 17-14 led by Jared Hall and his 3 homeruns. The Sharks came back up to the plate and for the first time all season were sat down 1,2,3 by Christian Martin which gave the Classics an excellent opportunity to knock off the Sharks needing only 4 runs. The bottom of the 3rd had a World Series type feel to it with pitcher Michael Gibson doing everything he could to keep the ball inside the ball park and he succeeded. The Classics closed the gap to 17-16 after walks and clutch hits and after Gold Glove favorite Matt Boles mishandled a flyball the Classics were able to load the bases up but the next at bat yielded a ground out to 2nd and allowed the Sharks to escape unscathed.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Michael Gibson (7-9) 4 HR's 10 RBI's...3 IP, 16 RA, 1 K
MVP WATCH
1. Luke Zente (40-51) .784, 16 HR's, 35 RBI's - Launching 7 HR's in one game and leading the league in average, Luke is becoming arguably the most feared hitter in the game.
2. Michael Gibson (34-49) .694, 18 HR's, 37 RBI's - Leading the league in homeruns and coming to play against the defending World Series champion Classics and pulling out a win to keep his Sharks undefeated has M.Gibson heavily in the MVP discussion.
3. Matt Boles (37-48) .771, 15 HR's, 35 RBI's - Boles had a bit of an off game against the Classics but he's still on an MVP type pace this season and nobody hits a prettier home run ball than this guy.
4. Christian Martin (19-28) .679, 7 HR's, 18 RBI's - Basically if you don't play for the Sharks it's going to be a tough year to snag the MVP award but Christian led his team to a win over the Raiders yesterday, and was one big hit away from knocking off the Sharks which is good enough to snag 4th.
5. Matt Haas (25-38) .658, 11 HR's, 24 RBI's - Haas was downright pedestrian yesterday but he still leads all non Sharks in homers and if he could get going he has potential to shake up the list.
CY YOUNG WATCH
1. Michael Gibson (4-0) 11.44 ERA, 21 K's - When you're leading the league in ERA and you're yet to be beaten you'll be at the top of the CY Young watch.
2. Christian Martin (2-3) 12.46, 23 K's - Leads the league in strike outs and one of the most consistent pitchers in the league.
3. D.Gibson (2-4) 13.50, 13 K's - Got shelled yesterday in the Sharks game but still arguably has the best pitches and most movement out of anyone.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR WATCH
1. Luke Zente (40-51) .784, 16 HR's, 35 RBI's - This one is probably wrapped up.
2. Addison Powell (12-21) .571, 5 HR's, 13 RBI's - Solid stats but he'll have to play unreal to catch Luke.
COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR
1. Adam Dickinson (9-17) .522, 1 HR, 7 RBI's
GOLD GLOVE WATCH PITCHER
1. Dylan Gibson - made a sick double play yesterday, it's gonna take some web gems by everyone else to knock him off this spot.
GOLD GLOVE WATCH FIELDERS
1. Matt Haas - What can you say this guy is the fielder to have just missed an incredible behind the back put out at 2nd yesterday.
2. Matt Boles - Dropped a flyball yesterday for the first time all year but is still by far the smoothest fielder in the league.
3. Daniel Lawson - Made his debut and while his bat wasn't quite ready for prime time, his fielding as always was.
SILVER SLUGGERS WATCH
1. Luke Zente (40-51) .784, 16 HR's, 35 RBI's - As said above could very well be the most feared hitter in the game and the most puzzling to get out.
2. Michael Gibson (34-49) .694, 18 HR's, 37 RBI's - Leading the league in homers and seems to be just heating up.
3. Matt Boles (37-48) .771, 15 HR's, 35 RBI's - Look you're basically just splitting hairs when it comes to ordering the Silver Sluggers all three have been on ridiculous paces.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER WATCH
1. Adam Dickinson (9-17) .522, 1 HR, 7 RBI's
